Why is this indicator important?
Voting is the mechanism for the expression of individual and collective conviction. In order for the laws, policies and leaders to represent the will of the population, a significant percentage of the population must vote.
How are we doing?

- The number of registered voters in Dallas County has averaged between 1.1 million and 1.25 million per election since 1999.
- Less than 25% of registered voters have participated in each of the last three mayoral elections. In the 2003 election, only 10% of the registered voters exercised their right to vote.
- Approximately 37% of Dallas County's registered voters participated in the latest gubernatorial race (2002). Under 50% of registered voters voted in the 2000 presidential election.
