Foundations can support community improvement through targeted funding. Charitable organizations require adequate funding to build the capacity to serve the many worthwhile causes of needy communities. Public and private support is critical to enable philanthropic efforts.
This aspiration presents data and information for three indicators, which are listed in the grey panel on the right side of this page. Specifically, the three indicators within this aspiration report the following:
- In state & out of state grants: Contributions by foundations across the nation compared with contributions by foundations in Texas as reported by the Foundation Center in 2005
- Strength & involvement of foundations: Activity of foundations across the nation compared with activity by foundations in Texas and the Dallas PMSA as reported by the Foundation Center in recent years
- Public support for philanthropy: Amount of charitable activity by individuals as reported by the Generosity Index, as well as financial information on nonprofit groups in Texas and the United States as reported by the National Center for Charitable Statistics
